A Day in Yazoo City

Ned and I had a fabulous Saturday in Yazoo City. Highlights, in brief:

A visit to Jennings Welding to buy Ned's Christmas grill, made all the more fun by the owner, who serenaded Mary Beth with Jimmie Rogers tunes and gave us a metal bottle tree for the backyard as a gift.

A visit to a local food store, where we were reeled in by the sign advertising kibbe, tamales, and chili all in the same place (also, a clever sign saying "Eli eats here" with the tiny word "Smith" written in little letters by the name Eli.)

We toured the local museum, shopped downtown at an antiques store, visited the grave of Willie Morris, and even helped the locals by taking a photo of teenagers who vandalized the Episcopal Church. (Ned spotted the group after the crime, Mary Beth ran after them with the digital camera, and a few local network phone calls summoned the police. The not-so-smart criminals had just visited the museum across the street and signed the guestbook, so we had photos and names for all of them!)
