Saturday Adventures in Monroe

We'd never been to Monroe before, and thought -- why not? Here's a photo from the flower park maintained by the Rotary Club. It's near a great alley of antique shops. They closed at 5 p.m. We arrived at 4:30 p.m. Oh well.
A good find in West Monroe. They use Gambino's bread on their poboys. The roast beef is sliced, not shredded, however. Atmostphere gets a 10. Poboys gets a 3, for the bread alone.
And we ended up at the race track. How to describe this fun? (1) Men who carry 3 beers at a time around the grandstands. By beer, I mean 24 oz. cans of Natural Light. (2) Parking lot races, where regular folks sign up to race their everyday vehicles on the track at intermission. Insurance policies have exclusions for this, by the way. That might explain their brake lights on the turns. (3) The HORRIBLE WOMAN who sent the police officer to confiscate my camera after the above photo was snapped. She could have asked me to put it back in the car as we walked through the gates (it was tucked in my purse after this photo was taken), but apparently she must have thought I looked particularly dangerous and she needed some back up.

  1. What? Were pictures not allowed or something? That is just horrible, I would have been annoyed too... but it seems your camera was fine afterwards, right? :)
(By the way - I'm all for taking pictures in places even if they say no pictures allowed - my best story is from Sacre Coeur in Paris, where I was kicked out for snapping a no-flash picture because "the place is sacred"... right, and that's what those coin souvenir machines INSIDE the church stand for... it sacredness... of course, I went back in 5 minutes later and sure enough, lots of people were taking pictures in the back of the church where nobody was looking) :)
