The politicians have arrived.
At long last, and after breaking two drill bits and buying a third, they're up. These are presents from Mama and Daddy, given to us when we bought our new home. It took us a year to get them up on the walls! Yes, that is an autographed campaign poster of Carter that you see, and an original Nixon campaign poster. We carefully hung them so the sun would not fade the autographs--don't worry, Mom.

President and Mrs. Carter autographed that poster for us personally on a trip to Valdosta when they were stumping for Wyche Fowler for Senate. President Carter even commented that it was a very old poster. We didn't ask for Mrs. Carter's autograph, but she offered it anyway. Your daddy was on the county's Democratic Committee at the time, and we had kept the poster since 1976 when as a college student he worked at the Democratic campaign headquarters in Baton Rouge. Subsequently we received a generic invitation to the inauguration.
ReplyDeleteThe Nixon poster was a gift from Aunt Charlotte. David had coveted it for a long time, and she finally gave it to him.
