Dillinger was betrayed by a Polish hooker who was asked to wear red (I believe that she actually wore a shade of orange) so that the FBI could be sure it was Big John. He had been to see "Manhatten Melodrama" staring Clark Gable and Bogart. Dillinger was known to have been proud of his look which reminded many of Bogart.
