Hooray for the VFM!
In a fall filled with grant application failures and snarky rejection letters, today I got a much needed dose of good news: the USDA Nutrition Program has awarded the Vicksburg Farmers Market a $48,000 grant (over a two year period). I worked with the city's grant writer to pen the application back in the early summer. The awarded dollars will pay for advertising, equipment, and -- most importantly -- a market manager and assistant manager. I'm really glad that now the VFM will have stable funding and hired staff, because it's be good for the market, and I'm selfishly looking forward to next summer, when our home phone won't be the contact number anymore and we can avoid all those 7 a.m. calls! Also, in good-for-vacation-news, we won't be obligated to town every Saturday morning. Happy day.
