D's last day of school
He was less cooperative for the last day of school pictures than he was for pictures on his first day of school, but it's clear that our fella has grown! (Photos taken May 22.)

David had a 5-star day!
He behaved for speech testing, was rewarded with ice cream, got to pick up his dad at the airport, and ended the evening with his train set and Lightning McQueen (both of which he "earned back" today as potty training continues).

Tasty and delicious
That's what David declared the cake he snitched off the counter while I changed John in the back of the house. He's right; Sandy's cake is delicious!

Splash Pad
After the mud episode, the best idea we had to clean the boys up was to put them in the splash pad that they received for Christmas. We thought it was a good idea, until--after starting the water--Mary Beth realized how much of the splash pad was inflatable. She and Ned almost passed out blowing up the whale slide, the palm tree, the giant fish, the starfish rings, the shade rainbow, etc. We put John in a swimsuit, but David quickly stripped out of his play clothes and insisted on splashing in his birthday suit. Team Mitchell has moved into the Wisteria neighborhood--sorry, Sandy!
Turn your back for one minute...
and David dumps out a glass of water to make mud, and John commences eating it. Is the bottom photo what John will look like with a beard in about 20 years?
Catching up on the Blog
Apologies that things have been silent this week. We've been running 10 different directions, and there hasn't been much time for blogging. A quick recap:
On Wednesday, we went to Jackson to see Lyle Lovett with our friend, Sandy. He was terrific. He played for 2.5 hours, and Ned and I enjoyed a "grown up" evening while Nana and Granddaddy kindly kept the boys. (Thanks, y'all!)
On Thursday, we recovered from our Wednesday trip to Jackson. We got home Wednesday night/Thursday morning at 12:30 a.m., and we've decided we're too old to be doing that kind of stuff. We all dragged the entire day, and quietly ended the night watching the series finale of The Office. Sad to see it go, but I comfort myself with the knowledge that Arrested Development will be on Netflix in a couple of weeks.
Last night, Friday, Aunt Angie came over to watch the boys so Ned and I could again travel to Jackson for Shelby's graduation. She was an honor graduate, so she should have no troubles at LSU. Congrats, Shelby!
And, finally, because we cannot have an entire post without a photo of the boys, here's a flashback picture from John's first meeting with Aunt Angie.

Monday Picnic
We met Ned for lunch at ERDC after picking up David from preschool today. David ran around, John sneezed yogurt all over me, and Ned managed to scarf some lunch. I ate the cookie I packed for the "kid dessert" and grabbed a bite when I got home. Madness, but fun.

Muffins with Mama
David and Mama enjoyed muffins at preschool this morning. The kids learned a song that they were supposed to sing, but David didn't participate. As we colored at the table this afternoon, though, I recognized it as he sang it softly and then he gave me a solo command performance when I asked (and promised a candy prize). Bribery...I'm not above it!

Introducing Logan Lucille Bendele
Born this past Sunday to proud parents Jessica and Marvin, along with the best big sister in all of Texas, Larkin Elizabeth. Meanwhile, back in Mississippi, Uncle Ned anxiously awaits the upcoming weekend road trip to see his two favorite nieces.

Quite the pickle, eh, David?
He crawled in John's crib with the help of a stepstool, but now he can't figure out how to escape. I think I have the only kids on Earth who've never tried scaling the rails.

John is famous!
He has a full page photo in VICKSBURG IMPRESSIONS magazine thanks to Lauchlin. And he's precious, of course. The article is all about the local man, Mr. Hall, who makes wooden rocker toys.

First barber shop haircut
All was good until Mr. Downey brought out the clippers. That man has the patience of a saint. David, not so saintly...

Rainy afternoon watching Curious George
Mama gave in to the tv. The running-in-circles-around-the-house routine was more than she could take.
