I told him he could only carry him in the baby carrier and he'd need to put it on because I was holding the baby. This project has kept him relatively quiet and out of trouble for 10+ minutes, and counting.

Going to school! Going to school!
This is what it looks like, though classes are canceled for the next two days on account of Hurricane Isaac.

We paid $7
So David could scream, avoid all the bouncy toys and his friends, and spend most of his time making faces in an old dressing room mirror. Grrr...

His latest trick
I put John in his carseat on the kitchen floor while I took a pan from the oven. He managed to turn over on his belly and start rocking the carseat back and forth while he laughed. Smart kid.

Family dinner
To cap off our first weekend at home in several months, tonight we enjoyed a great smoked pork loin. All except for David, that is, who insisted instead on oatmeal (John couldn't believe it).

Visiting Granddaddy
David was too distracted by the apple sauce-in-a-squeeze-tube that (patient photographer) Nana provided to look at the camera, but he and Daddy had a great visit this afternoon in Madison.

David's first day of preschool
He was hard to wake and get out of bed. Then, once up, you saw his nutritious pop tart breakfast (earlier post today).
He checked his room before we left to make sure he hadn't left anything behind.
And then he was ready and waiting by the back door by the time I rounded up John.
Here he is, poised to be the big man on campus. Note the backpack swagger.
And here he is goofing with his teacher, Miss Ashley.
Miss Ashley reported that he had a pretty good first day. She said he teared up a couple of times (so sad), but would be fine after distraction with some of their activities. She said he loved to color, and "he seems to enjoy looking at himself in the class mirror." See photo evidence below, captured when I spied on him through the doorway window before he knew I'd come to pick him up. All the other children were sitting quietly in a circle waiting on their parents.
